Boogie Woogie Booger Boy
Sue:
On Wednesday, the last day for cruise ships (and our last day of working with the public), I was standing by my favorite register, not doing much of anything, minding my own business, when I happened to glance at a guy in his 40s or 50s with his thumb stuck way up in his nose rooting around like there was buried treasure up there. And hey, we've all been there, right? Kinda gross, but not a big deal, except that when he found what he was looking for, he proceeded to come over to our jade counter and wipe his thumb across the edge of it...back and forth and back and forth. At that point my mouth was agape and I, for once in my life, was left speechless. He never made eye contact with me, even when I was making inarticulate squeakie noises that must have sounded something like "ack, ack, ack." A coworker asked me what my problem was and I just pointed to the guy, who by now was on the other side of the store, and told my coworkers what I had just seen. They all turned to look at the guy (while I got some Windex and a paper towel to go take care of our counter) and saw him stick his thumb back up his nose and then wipe his hands all over his face. That did us all in and we just all started howling, hooting and generally squirting tears of laughter all over the place. The oblivious guy looked awhile longer at the soapstone and then casually strolled out the door. I think that was a fitting last day of work for the season, don't you?
4 More Days
Yes just four more days of work for us, at least when the ships are in. This weekend we have a few days with no ships and then a week from today will be the last day with ships for the season. After that, hopefully, we will have something interesting to write.
So what have we been doing since we obviously have not been blogging? Well we had a list of things we wanted to do before we left Skagway and have been checking it off. Most of the things on the list were simple things we had never taken the time to do, like go see where Ma Pullen's house was.

Ma was one of those fronter ladys who came up to Skagway with the gold rush and made a fortune selling pie to the klondikers - apple that is. She made pie tins from old cans and people loved this taste of home so much that she made enough money to support her kids and open a hotel. Ma Pullen's house was one of the gems of the town, but it burned down and all that remains is a fireplace in the woods by Pullen Creek.
We also went to the City Museum.

They have some great exhibits and it is well worth the $2 fee.
And we spent more time out at the Flats. So I'll leave you with this parting shot.
