Two pugs, two cats, two people and endless roads.

Answer to My Prayers

I was listening to the game last week because one, I was at work; and two, I don't have TV anyway. I was just watching the action via GameTrax, which I heard Phil describe to his mother as Atari Football, but watching the little helmets march up and down a tiny football field wasn't very exhilarating. So I got a link online to WDVE, a Pittsburgh radio station that claims to be the Home of Steelers Football. What an exciting game against the Ravens, huh? I was in the back room, stomping my feet, clapping, groaning in despair, and stomping on some Grand Canyon baseball caps with pictures of ravens on them. It didn't look good for my team towards the end, so I had to pray to the football gods. And you don't get something for nothing from them, that's for sure, so I couldn't just ask for a win. I had to barter. I promised that if the Steelers pulled it off, I would buy a new Steelers sweatshirt. And we scored a touchdown! But we weren't out of the woods yet. So I had to pray again. This time it was Phil who would get the new sweatshirt (in addition to my new one). And we scored another touchdown! And we won!! And now we have new Steelers gear on the way. I just have to be careful what I promise tomorrow. I don't get paid for another two weeks.

We were driving back from the Res where one of my Native American students had hosted us at a feast day dance. So I was already full--that was the feast part of the dance day --but I stopped and got a soda with extra ice to champ on. That got us to the 3rd quarter where I was feeling real good about listening and not jinxing our team. Then I ran out of ice! I tired gum and they got a TD!! Gum was not going to do!! So I made for the first stop I could find with TV, beer, chips and salsa. I had to yell at a thankfully understanding waiter when Ben did the touch back fumble! The waiter rushed the chips and beer to the table and we crunched and sipped our way to the last possession. Fortunately I have 2 weeks to lose those chips before the Super Bowl. I must go into training now!! Hope we get to share the game with you guys.--Pat
