Desert View from the Watchtower
I know I'm forever apologizing for long lapses between posts, but we've been having issues lately. My main problem right now is my computer is no more, and we shipped it off to the computer fixers yesterday. So Phil and I are sharing, and even though we get along well in most respects, it hasn't been pleasant sharing my desk with him. But hopefully I will have my computer back sometime before we leave here.
And I think I already told you about our house being broken. We had to shell out the dough for a new converter, and hopefully it will also be here soon. In the meantime, we bought a battery charger to keep our heat on. Since it's been in the teens at night lately, that's been a priority for us for some reason.
Other than us spending money on not-fun things, which I despise, things are going well in the Canyon. Last week on our days off, we went for a walk with the dogs in our backyard.

That picture pretty much sums it up. Miles and miles of nothing. It's neat. Kind of hard to stroll down the avenue with all the rocks and branches and cacti, but still nice to have all that nothing around us.
The next day, we took the 25-mile drive to Desert View. There's a tower out there that Mary Colter, woman architect extraordinaire, built back in the 1930's.

There's a store at the bottom, of course, but you can climb up and up and around and around to the top, which was cool.

Even the ceiling has drawings on it.

We toodled around the tower for a bit, and then it was time to get on to Cameron and munch on some Navajo tacos. But before we left, a raven decided to bid us farewell.

As usual, we ate too much good food and had to spend the rest of the day digesting. But we can't wait until Pat and Paula come up for Christmas, because we want to go eat some more tacos with them. Nothing says Christmas like fried bread topped with cheese, meat, sour cream and beans.
That about wraps things up for now. Next days off, if it isn't snowing, we're going to do our first Bright Angel Trail trek to get conditioned for April when we want to try for the bottom. Unfortunately, we tried to get accommodations for the night and were told they are already all booked up for March and April, but we have a guy on the inside who told me to come and pick his brains about how we can get around that. It's nice to have friends in high places.
And with one final pic, I will say goodnight.
