Rim Jobs

For the first time in our workamping history, we've procured steady winter employment. Yesterday we got word that we've been accepted for positions at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. We'd be working for their park association, much like what we're doing here at Grand Teton, and what we've done in the past at Yellowstone. So we're very excited about that, and we're looking forward to being back at the Grand Canyon. I've only been there once, but it definitely left an impression, and Phil has been there many times and he loves it. We'll be whipped into shapes by our mile down and mile up treks we plan on taking. So if anyone's going to be in Arizona from mid-October through early April, come and see us at the Grand Canyon South Rim.

Now, of course, that means we won't be able to regale you with tales of Amazon.com for a third year, but I'm thinking you all can handle that. We'll still order some stuff from them though...we can't just quit cold turkey.

As for what's been going on around the Tetons, it's quieting down a bit, and instead of all the family crowds, we've just been seeing the older folks and the foreigners (and maybe a couple home-schooled kids here and there). It's pneumonia-catching time, however. Freezing overnight, cold mornings, very warm afternoons, and then chilly evenings. It just can't decide what it wants to do, and you have to wear layers or you're doomed. I like the cold, and wish it would stay in the 50s during the day, but not yet.

But the moose are coming back in force, and every morning we get to see at least one in the campground. Unfortunately, the locals know where they hang out this time of year, so we've had to deal with some interlopers in our employee-only campground, but I understand moose fever, I guess. As long as no one does what happened to one of our neighbors last season...she stays at home while her husband works. She was in her RV one morning, and heard voices outside, very close. She went outside to see what was going on, and this group of four "photographers" was sitting in her lawn chairs, under her awning, on her patio, helping themselves to her bottled water. Can you believe that?

And now for the picture portion of this blog. These were taken this morning in our campground as we were heading into town to get some errands done.

And this one was taken on our way home from work the other day. I think I got the night-photography thing down, don't you?
