Tornado Warning
Sue:
Well, we thought our first night on the road in our RV would be our last. We stayed in Greenfield, IN, on Saturday night. The weather had been warm all day. Highs in the 70s and sunny. We were a little bit cocky about how easy the trip had been so far. The gods don't like it when you're cocky.
That night, after we watched PSU whip the Wisconsin cheeseheads, the news came on and started talking about the possibility of severe weather in the area. Our ears perked up. Did they just say tornado? Oh, ok, the tornado warnings were for Illinois. Phew! Wait. Did they just say, damaging winds? Severe thunderstorms? Hail??
I started to feel a bit queasy. I checked my email and an (ex) friend of mine had sent me a link to an article describing how trailers and trucks had flipped over that day due to the high winds. Now I really felt sick.
That night we got it all. The RV was shaking. The lightning was flashing. The thunder was rumbling. The hail came down. (Sorry, Jesse, I was too scared to get out of bed to take any pictures.) Phil and I started praying. I got about two hours of sleep that night. I guess we didn't need to christen the toilet that day afterall - we both peed our pants that night.
But we made it through. The RV's in good shape. We're still alive. We called our folks to make sure they knew we were safe.
Now it's Monday. We're in Iowa, and the weather is just fine. It's a bright, sunny day, and we're using the Wireless internet at a rest stop. Phil is telling me it's time to get back on the road. It's Sioux Falls or bust!
