Two pugs, two cats, two people and endless roads.

We Can, and Pelican, Too

Well looky here...it's Monday and I'm doing a blog. Woo boy. We got up early on this our day off, and took the dogs for a walk around the campground. We just about wore them out, they aren't used to the activity. Then Phil and I decided to take a drive around the park.

But first, a couple of pics from days gone by. This one was taken right by our house when we came home one night from work:

Moose

And this one I made Phil stop for one the way to work one morning:

Elk

His antlers are still fuzzy. At least they aren't bloody and gross yet. I'll try to get pictures of that later on.

That brings us back to today. We took the loop around the park, starting on the way to Jenny Lake. We pretty much took every pulloff. This was one of the first ones we came to. I forget whose cabin this was, but he was here a long time ago, and they say his cabin was the first two-storied structure in this area.

Cabin

Nowadays, it's used for park service storage, and horse grazing. We then went on to Jenny Lake, but we didn't get any exciting pictures, and I don't think you care to see any of the ones I took. Pretty boring, take my word for it. Oh, wait. I forgot that Phil took his art shot of the day there.

Art Shot

Then it was on to Jackson Lake Lodge, where we saw the darndest-looking bird. We actually had to backtrack and get a picture of it. I have no idea what it is.

Bird

The lodge itself was kind of a surprise for us. It was a lot more modern looking than we were expecting.

Jackson Lake Lodge

This was the back of it, and it did have a great view. And this is where the people were chasing the bear the other day. We can see why bear would like to hang out there.

After the lodge, we took a walk down around Oxbow Bend so I could check out the pelicans. One flew pretty close to us, but of course we didn't have the cameras ready when that happened. But we did almost step in some poop.

Poop

It looked pretty fresh to us, so we kept our eyes open and our hands clapping. It may be bear...we need our Who Pooped in the Park book for reference.

But I did get to watch my pelicans for awhile, and I got some decent shots.

Pelican

And Oxbow Bend is just about the prettiest place in the park.

Oxbow Bend

We're going to take our kayak out there sometime soon, and paddle among the pelicans, and hopefully some otters and beavers too.

That's about it for this week. All is well in Wyoming, and we hope it's the same with you.

That is a Sandhill Crane. Cool. If Phil had panned just a bit to the left and cropped out that tree - it would have been a nice art shot. The busy focal point is a bit too centered. He should have left a nice boring span of lake to offset it. Your photos are, as always, gorgeous.

Im not sure about the name for the bird or the poop originator but I do think the poop shot was of a quality that should make it easily identifiable with proper resources.

Have you seen the famous Grand Teton grizzly family yet? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43547575/ns/us_news-environment/

The cropping of the photos is done by me, so it is not Phils fault. I knew I should have taken Focal Point 101 in college. Jason, I have not seen the famous Grizzly yet, even though people said theyve been seeing bears everywhere, especially in Yellowstone, and we have been selling an inordinate amount of bear spray. I will read the link right now, though!
